We have had a problem with Jez when she gets in the car, basically she has that high pitched Yap all the way through the journey and yes it is very annoying, (Even Tigz looks at her as if to say, "I do wish you'd shut up, your giving me a headache!" ), and does give you a headache over long journeys.
Well we have tried the water pistol method, but Jez being Jez doesn't bother about a bit of water squirted on her, nup, she loves it and does it all the more.
So what were we to do? lets see what is in the local big petstore!
well searching through the store revieled a few items that might be of use, including a giant squirty gun, but as said that would only enhance her enjoyment, although the water pistol method does help in most cases.
We found a special type of muzzle, it allows the dog to pant and drink, but it stops them from barking and YES Yapping! we got back home and gave Jez a fitting of the new muzzle, it fitted really nicely, yes she tried to get it off but no matter how much she tried it didnt come off, and decided to lay down and sulk!
the product is called Mesh Muzzle, and though it does say it is designed for dogs that bite, (Jez is not a biter), a similar product was being sold as a dog "Quietner", but that was not in GSD size, so this being the same thing but different packaging and wording, was basically the same but larger.
It is made by a company called ANCOL website is... www.ancol.co.uk
we bought the Large Size 5-6 for jez although they do say on the size guide sizes 4-6, but size 4-6 would have been to small for Jez, so if your local store allows dogs in, it may be an idea to take them in for a fitting to make sure of the correct size.
Price is just under £6.50 each, a small price for a quiet and relaxing drive in my opinion

that sounds great. i might get one of them for tia. Shes quiet while i'm driving but as soon as i get out of the car she starts barking and i cant seem to stop her, shes oblivious to the water spray too lol... _________________ Karen x

Well as an update it worked for a while, but alas she is back to it, she must have been sulking when she was quiet, but on the upside she can only do the deeper yap now and not the high pitched yap that that really gives you a headache, reckon it will be back to scratch and trying her in the back of the car, going knowwhere then getting her out after 10 minutes or so when she is quiet and take it from there.
I think the main excitement was caused when she knew we were nearing the beach, she loves it and gets really excited, (can't blame her really).
